Job Hopping

The tendency over the past decades is that most people work at any one job for a shorter period of time than their parents did. Even until the 70’s it was not uncommon to find people that had only had 1 or 2 career positions as adults. Is the trend towards shorter tenures always bad? Certainly from the management point of view it is always easier not to have an excess turnover and have a drain on training time and resources. But does a business benefit from a regular turn over?

From an employee’s point of view is it easier to climb the ladder by job hopping? Does a person gain more skills and employer desirability by having a longer resume? What is the balance?

Some good points made in this article, brings to mind some more questions that are hard to answer.
